The Omaha Zoo Foundation announced today that it will hold an auction to sell memorabilia items from Rosenblatt Stadium, allowing the public to own a part of the Rosenblatt legacy. The Omaha Zoo Foundation took ownership of Rosenblatt Stadium on June 9, 2011. The live auction, presented by Auction Solutions, will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. CDT on the southwest side of Rosenblatt Stadium. Live online bidding provided exclusively by Proxibid will commence at that time. Auction registration and pre-bidding are already available via www.rosenblattauction.com or www.proxibid.com/rosenblatt. All proceeds will benefit Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo Infield at the Zoo Legacy Project, which will immortalize the history of the Crown Jewel of college baseball.
Rosenblatt Stadium opened in 1948 and has been host to several minor league baseball teams, most recently the Omaha Royals, which played at Rosenblatt from 1969-2010. Most notably, Rosenblatt Stadium was home to the College World Series® (CWS) for 60 years. The final CWS game at Rosenblatt was played on June 29, 2010.
“Rosenblatt Stadium is a sports icon in itself,” said Calvin Sisson, Executive Director of the Omaha Zoo Foundation. “We are thrilled to be able to share the stadium memorabilia with baseball and College World Series fans from across the country. Online bidding on Proxibid makes it possible for all fans from both near and far to own a true piece of Americana. All proceeds from this auction will benefit the Infield at the Zoo Legacy Project, a project that will create a beautiful outdoor public space to be enjoyed by future generations.”
With a rich history steeped in tradition, Rosenblatt Stadium is host to a collection of college baseball memorabilia bidders won’t find anywhere else. Anyone who has ever attended a CWS game, watched a game on TV, or is a baseball fan will want to log in and bid online at this live auction webcast. In all, more than 900 lots of memorabilia, including dugout seats, signage, bases, players’ lockers and more will cross the auction block during this auction.
